Bunion is a thickened, fluid-filled bursa, overlying the big toe joint. The underlying cause is, hallux valgus, in which the joint at the base of the big toe projects outwards while the tip turns inwards. It can be very painful.
How to treat?
Without treatment, it will get worse. To remedy bunion, wear properly fitted shoes and a special toe pad to straighten the big toe and keep it in position.
How does it form?
Bunion results from rubbing of a shoe against a normal outward projection of the joint at the base of the big toe, leading to irritation and inflammation. The abnormality often due to the wearing of narrow, pointed shoe with high heels, although it can also result from weakness in the joint.
